Our Hands-On Review – Desert Tactical Solutions

We’ve installed and tested many of these on our own builds. Here’s what we’ve found:

  • The pull is crisp and consistent with a very positive reset -excellent for both range work and defensive applications.
  • The 3.5lb Curved is an outstanding all-around trigger -we recommend it for target practice, precision shooting, and self-defense/duty use.
  • The DLC coating looks outstanding and shows excellent wear resistance.
  • Installation is truly drop-in. We typically have it running smoothly in under 20 minutes on a standard mil-spec lower.
  • At this price point, it delivers outstanding performance and value compared to much more expensive triggers.

Real-World Performance: We have had zero malfunctions or light strikes with these triggers, and that is with many different types of brass and nickel-cased ammo. We have not had any problems with steel-cased ammo, but we have only limited experience with it. If you shoot primarily steel-cased ammo, Velocity offers a trigger designed specifically for it. The 3.5 lb pull strikes an excellent balance between speed and control.

Bottom Line: If you want a smooth, reliable, and affordable upgrade that works great across multiple applications, the Velocity 3.5lb Curved Trigger is one of our top all-around recommendations.

Installation Notes

Installing the Velocity 3.5lb Curved Trigger is a straightforward drop-in process that usually takes us under 20 minutes. Always ensure your firearm is completely unloaded before beginning.

  1. Unload your firearm completely and dry fire it to release as much tension on the hammer spring as possible.
  2. Separate the upper receiver from the lower receiver by pushing out the rear takedown pin and front pivot pin.
  3. Remove the pistol grip, safety selector spring, detent, and safety selector.
  4. Remove the old trigger/hammer assembly by driving out the trigger and hammer pins with a 1/8″ punch.
  5. Insert the new Velocity trigger assembly into the lower receiver. Do not install the trigger or hammer pins yet.
  6. Reinstall the safety selector.
  7. Install the trigger and hammer pins. We strongly recommend anti-walk pins (with thread locker on the anti-walk screws), but factory pins can also be used.
  8. Using the provided Allen wrench, tighten the two 8/32 screws on both sides of the hammer in the aluminum housing to secure the pins.
  9. Install the two 8/32×1/8″ set screws on top of the first screws. We recommend applying a small amount of blue thread locker on these set screws.
  10. Reinstall the safety detent, spring, and pistol grip.
  11. Reinstall the upper receiver onto the lower receiver.
  12. Function check the trigger: Place your thumb in front of the hammer and pull the trigger (do not let the hammer strike the receiver). Cock the hammer, put the firearm on safe, and verify the trigger does not fire while on safe.

Final Tip: After reassembly, always perform a full function check of the trigger and safety before loading any live ammunition.
